In ancient times, Piguaquan was known as 'Armour Wearing Boxing'. Ma Yingtu of the Nanjing Wushu Institute and Guo Changshen revised the system, adding new techniques. Today, Piguaquan is very popular in Gansu and Cangzhou provinces. Known as 'Chopping and Splitting Style' or 'Axe Hitch Boxing', this style uses wide open arm and body movements, stressing continuity of movement and smooth power. It employs numerous throws, sweeps and strikes.
