通背拳
English: Through-the-Back Boxing
Cantonese: Tung Booi Kuen
Mandarin: Tong Bei Quan
This style is known as 'Through the Back', 'Through the Arm', or 'Arm Connecting' Boxing. It is easily identified by the wild and powerful arm swinging motions accompanied with slaps and strikes to the practitioner's own arms and body. Originally inspired by the arm movements of apes, there is a close connection to White Ape Style. Power is generated, passing through the back and into the arms. With diligent training, very heavy strikes are developed. Some branches of Tongbeiquan adapt five-element theory. Others base their movements on animals.
