形意拳
English: Form and Will Style
Cantonese: Sing Yi Kuen
Mandarin: Xing Yi Quan
Originating from Shan Xi province, Xing Yi Style traces its roots back to the 1600’s. The coordination of the body and mind is a principle emphasis of this internal style. Mind focus, or intent of the practitioner is refined to very high levels, creating a very fast, penetrating power that overwhelms the opponent.
Based heavily on Five-Element theory, each technique and step corresponds to a unique interrelationship of creation and control and suppression between wood, fire, earth, metal, and water energetic principles. In addition, the style draws inspiration from various animals.
